In mid-June, the IOTA Foundation celebrated the arrival of Christoph Strnadl, who was supposed to boost B2B as Director of “Technological Adoption”. But now Strnadl has left under circumstances that raise questions.
The IOTA Foundation was buzzing at the weekend. At first it was just a rumor, then there was confirmation. Christoph Strnadl, who only took up the newly created position of Director of Technological Adoption almost three months ago, is going his own way again. On X, Strnadl justified his resignation from IOTA by stating that “certain assumptions, conditions and promises” had not been fulfilled. The Austrian had moved from Software AG to the IOTA Foundation and was supposed to open doors with his contacts.
Dominik Schiener, head of the foundation, had welcomed Strnadl to IOTA with advance praise, partly because the appointment meant that an external expert could be recruited for a change. Now, however, Schiener has confirmed Strnadl’s departure in an IOTA group chat and suggested that the expert’s thinking was too old-fashioned. The IOTA community is surprised by this. It is also disturbing that the IOTA Foundation has deleted or changed previous blog articles and posts about Strnadl at record speed; CryptoApe has documented an example here on X.
IOTA departure of Strnadl points to deep problems
But even Strnadl can’t resist a poisonous comment on the situation at IOTA. He had never met an organization that managed to deliver technological adoption in the real world without blaming a board member. Strnadl was not appointed to the IOTA board, where Schiener gathers trusted members of the foundation around him. Strnadl is now also talking about different strategic positions that would have hindered his work and success at IOTA. During his short time in office, he managed to initiate a cooperation with the major IT company Eviden, which offers digital product passports for car batteries using IOTA technology.
Conclusion: IOTA Foundation madhouse – it’s getting lonely for boss Schiener
The bromance between Dominik Schiener and Christoph Strnadl did not even last a summer. Reading between the lines of their statements, it is clear that Schiener’s management style at the IOTA Foundation contributed to Strnadl’s decision. The community has thus lost one of the few contacts who made an effort to communicate effectively. Star developer Hans Moog, who is also highly respected in the IOTA community, was muzzled in a way that has not yet been resolved. From the outside, the impression is growing that the IOTA Foundation is tripping itself up with its fixation on Schiener as the sole leader. His managerial qualities are increasingly being questioned and Schiener’s statements are also not very brilliant from a technological point of view.
In terms of price, IOTA is not coming out of its deep valley at levels around USD 0.12, and the side project Shimmer (SMR) must be classified as a failure. Schiener has written these developments, which caused investors to lose millions, on the IOTA banner.
