IOTA EVM is Live Again with Delay – Community Gathers Courage
For the second time, the IOTA Foundation has launched the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) in its own network. The background for this attempt is the separation of IOTA 2.0 and Shimmer EVM from IOTA.
IOTA Foundation Restarts EVM on Mana Network
The IOTA Foundation has restarted the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) on its own network, clearly rebranding the relevant DeFi protocol as the “Shimmer EVM.” This relaunch follows the ambitious plans to break away from the action around IOTA 2.0. This kickoff shows a commitment to advancing the DeFi ecosystem, while the technical team works through some delays.
Community Receives the Restart Positively
The community has taken note of the successful restart of the IOTA EVM on the so-called “Mana Network.” Initial technical documentation has been addressed, and network incentives are awaiting DeFi enthusiasts who want to give it a try. The entire structure now spans the Shimmer network’s test chain. With this, the foundation wants to refocus IOTA as a global, wide-ranging project while supporting decentralized finance.
Shimmer EVM Seeks to Break New Ground
The Shimmer EVM faces initial challenges but aims to innovate and present new possibilities for DeFi developers. The IOTA Foundation is carrying out its strategy not only to equip IOTA with its own sidechains but also to design them as auxiliary chains. As part of the roadmap for IOTA 2.0, this step serves to make IOTA both self-sufficient and capable of acting in a broader technological context in the future.
Deliberate Decision for Shimmer Network
Shimmer acts as IOTA’s test network and is typically interconnected with IOTA’s technological innovations. The decision to launch the Shimmer EVM independently of IOTA is deliberate, allowing more flexibility in the future and the possibility to test new methods without impacting the main IOTA ecosystem. At the same time, the foundation emphasizes that initial tests and strategies are running as predicted.
