Hans Moog, IOTA Legend, Now Works at Kaspa
In mid-July 2023, Hans Moog, a central figure in the IOTA project, left the team. With his public criticism of IOTA and its path at the time, this was noted. Now the developer has found a new role at the young cryptocurrency Kaspa (code: KAS).
Background on Hans Moog
By his own admission, Hans Moog was one of IOTA’s few “code developers,” essentially contributing to the technical development of IOTA since 2018. Moog initially worked persistently on the IOTA 1.5 upgrade, also known as Chrysalis, and then on the highly anticipated IOTA 2.0. However, a public confrontation with IOTA co-founder Dominik Schiener eventually led to Moog’s departure. Moog criticized in particular that IOTA 2.0 would only be a “partial project” for Schiener and his team.
The Transition to Kaspa
On Twitter, Hans Moog has already actively advised Kaspa’s developers and confirmed in response to a tweet that he now works there as a full-time developer. Kaspa uses a special technological solution called the BlockDAG protocol. Instead of integrating new data on a single blockchain, BlockDAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) uses a network of blocks that are interconnected. In theory, faster speeds are expected compared to traditional blockchains. In various databases worldwide, Kaspa finds itself now in the top 70 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, according to Beacon. The target market for KAS seems to be fast payment solutions.
Willingness for Further Crypto Engagement
For Kaspa, winning over Hans Moog could be seen as a success, considering his background in IOTA and his expertise being recognized in crypto forums. Moog has also shown openness to other blockchain projects. He mentioned in a podcast interview early in October 2023 the idea of collaborating with developers from Nervos Network. For the IOTA community, the sudden departure of Moog remains a point of reflection.
